 So many times we’ve seen a flashy website with gorgeous images, but take a look under the hood and we find a rat’s nest of issues. Sometimes the website errors are honest mistakes, while others are because the business owner’s son was contracted to do the work. We are taking a look at the top 5 website mistakes that are using SEO the wrong way. 

1) Calling Your Homepage Home Sweet Homepage

Ah yes, the homepage. Typically the first page your visitors will land on to see your content. But time and time again we see the homepage listed on the website as nothing more than that— home. We’ve seen this on big name brands and the small guys using a free website builder. Does this help them? No it doesn’t. Leave your heart at home and get back to business.

 

2) Picture This, Or Don’t.

Are you a search spider? Good, then you can level us for a moment. Don’t you just love it when you are digesting a page, understanding everything very well, putting everything in it’s place when suddenly - bam! You come across 728293494.jpg or what about that qxyter350.png?  Yeah, those make great sense to us. File that under “garbage” for now.

 

 

3) One Page To Rule Them All - Single Page Websites

Now this is something that has perplexed me. I’ve been seeing single page websites pop up more and more. Why would you do this to your business? Your website is the face of your business online. Why only show your eyes when you obviously have that beautiful smile too. Unless you forgot to brush your teeth.

 

4) EVERYTHING IS AWESOME… AS AN H1 TAG

Do you like to shout all the time? IF SO, BE SURE TO TAG EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. YES THIS IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THAT OTHER LINE. I BET THAT WHEN STUDYING, YOU HIGHLIGHTED EVERYTHING ON THE PAGE. SHOUTING HAS ALSO PROVEN TO GET THE SEARCH SPIDERS ATTENTION. IF SHOUTING WAS QUIET, YOUR WEBSITE would be the quietest website out there.
